Isobel began dancing at age 3 under the watchful eye of her mother, Wilma Stewart. She then began studying with Helen Heed of Trenton and Sara Granzow of Bristol. Eventually she studied in New York City under many well-known teachers and began student teaching at the age of 12 for Ms. Granzow.
She took over running the Granzow Academy in 1962 and the studio became Stewart-Johnson in 1964. Miss Isobel was a charter member and soloist with the Princeton regional ballet company for 10 years. She has taught and judged for many national dance organizations. She is a member of dance masters of America and dance educators of America, organizations requiring testing to teach. Miss Isobel is past president of DMA Chapter 25 and serves on the Board of Directors. Her students have won numerous national awards, including DMA petite miss dance of America, Junior Miss Dance of America and Teen Miss Dance of America.
